The History of Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Manual lymphatic drainage was developed in the 1930s by Danish therapists Dr Emil Vodder and his wife Estrid Vodder while working in France, where they treated clients with swollen lymph nodes.
Their method gained recognition in Germany in the following decades and is still taught today. Medical lymphatic therapy for conditions such as lymphoedema is a specialist field; spa lymphatic massage is a gentle wellbeing treatment.
