The History of Deep Tissue Massage
Deep, focused massage has roots in many traditions, but the modern approach is often traced to Canadian physician Therese Pfrimmer, who in the 1940s developed a deep muscle therapy technique after using it in her own recovery.
Through the late 20th century, ideas from myofascial release and neuromuscular therapy were blended into deep tissue work. Today it is one of the most requested treatments for people who want more than relaxation from their massage.
